Regulation of maize root growth by nitrogen nutrition

چکیده
Response of root system architecture to nutrient availability in soils is an essential way for plants to adapt to soil environments. Nitrogen can affect root development either as a result of changes in the external concentration, or through changes in the internal nutrient status of the plant. On one hand, low soil N stimulate root elongation. On the other hand, localized nitrate stimulate lateral root elongation. Nevertheless, less is known about the physiological mechanisms. Based mainly on our work, the physiological mechanism underlined the response of maize roots to uniform or localized N supplies were reviewed. It was suggested that plant hormones auxin and cytokinin are involved in the regulation of nitrogen nutrition on maize root growth.

Responses of root growth and distribution of maize to nitrogen application patterns under partial root-zone irrigation
A field experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of varying nitrogen (N) supply andirrigation methods on the root growth and distribution of maize (Zea mays L.) in Wuwei, northwest China in 2011 and 2012. The irrigation treatments included alternate furrow irrigation(AI), fixed furrow irrigation (FI) and conventional furrow irrigation (CI). The N supply treatmentsincluded alternate ...

Optimized nitrogen (N) management reduces total N application without sacrificing cropyield. However, the underlining mechanisms have not been well investigated, especially lackingthe evidence from roots. Here we performed a two-year field experiment with maize grownunder zero-N, conventional N and optimized N applications and examined grain yield, N,phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) uptake and...

This research aimed at investigating the effect of different levels of nitrogen and planting patterns on dry matter production and growth physiological indices in intercropping maize and sunflower. To do this a split plot experiment carried out based randomized complete block design with three replications in research field of Shushtar Islamic Azad University. The main plot included three level...

BACKGROUND: Nutrient management is one of the most important factors that affect the growth and production of maize. OBJECTIVES: Current research was conducted to investigate the effect of Mycorrhizas and vermicompost on seed yield, its components and quantities traits such as concentration of protein, starch, zinc, potassium and nitrogen of corn seed.<br...
متن کاملYield and nitrogen leaching in maize field under different nitrogen rates and partial root drying irrigation
Irrigation water is limiting for crop production in arid and semi-arid areas. Furthermore, excess nitrogen (N) application is a source of groundwater contamination. Partial root drying irrigation (PRD) can be used as water saving technique and a controlling measure of groundwater N contamination. The objectives of this investigation were to evaluate the effect of ordinary furrow irrigation (OFI...
